And thus, we begin…

First off, for those of you folks on MySpace, feel free to add us as a friend at:

Well, folks, this is it. We’re on the eve of production day for “The Ties That Bind.”

I gotta be honest with you…I’m a little nervous. Yeah, yeah, we all know this isn’t my first rodeo (cowboy). But still…It’s been awhile since I’ve actually been behind the camera. Sure, last year we shot Leeds, but I was producer-man back then (and wore many other hats). Now, I’ll be back in the saddle as director. Even with all the various video projects I’ve done at the hospital over the past year, this will be the first time in a little while since I’m fully back in control of everything that goes down.

I really hope the shoot goes smoothly. I honestly don’t think we’ll have any problems, though. Every detail has been checked and rechecked (and rechecked, and rechecked, and rechecked…damn OCD!). Every shot is planned out, and every minute is accounted for. I’ve got a great cast ready to go, and a great crew to back me up.

This certainly isn’t the longest shoot I’ve ever done, nor will it be the most taxing, I’m sure. But, it is definitely one that I feel like the pressure is on, and that a lot is riding on its outcome.

I do feel a certain amount of pressure to do Brian’s story justice. I know he’s been down the long road of film adaptations before, but this will be the first one to actually cross the finish line. I hope it lives up to fans expectations. I hope it lives up to his expectations. And I hope that everyone else stuck somewhere in the middle can enjoy it too!

The final hours are ticking away now…I’ll be leaving work soon, and then it’s off for a long night in front of me: some last minute shopping (snacks! How could I have forgotten snacks?!), packing, repacking, charging batteries, production meeting with cast & crew over dinner, and then stressing out all night (and not being able to sleep) before we leave in the morning.

The adrenaline is pumping, my heart is racing, and my nerves are wracking.

Yeah, I’m fucking pumped and ready to go.

Let’s go shoot this motherfucker.

Newspaper Props for Ties

What’s this?! Two posts in two days?!

The world MUST be coming to an end!

Anyway, finished the fake newspapers that’ll probably be seen on screen for all of three seconds. I’m quite proud of them, though. They came out pretty nice!

Feel free to check out how they came out over in the gallery for Ties That Bind.

One week til the shoot…

Ties SFX Test

So, tonight I did a bit of testing of the “zombie bite”

For a first time at really taking a crack at it, it’s not so bad! It’s not perfected yet, obviously, but it’s still damn good. I need to get some flesh colored liquid latex to help blend the bite to the skin better. You can see in some areas how it’s hard to see where my skin ends and the prostetic bite begins…other areas, it’s more obvious. It’s gotta be a combination of the liquid latex, the make up itself, and the lack of me using the “white creme” make up to help blend it. I’ll probably take another crack at it tomorrow night.

In the meantime, here’s a money shot for ya:

You can see the rest of the shots over at the SFX Gallery

The Ties That Bind & Leeds stuff

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, it’s been awhile since there was anything of substance in this journal. Hell, I could have written this weeks ago. But I’m lazy. So sue me.

So, without further ado, I present to you the cast of THE TIES THAT BIND.

As per usual (is anyone really surprised?), the movie will star the one and only KEVIN INTERDONATO.

It will also star the very lovely and very talented LOGAN TRACEY.

I have worked with Kevin (Off The Island, Leeds Point) and Logan (Leeds Point) before, and I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to be working with them again. Working alongside me (while wearing many hats, both literally and figuratively) will be my partner in crime, Mike (Santo) Scardillo.

We’ll be shooting on Thursday October 23rd and Friday October 24th in Maryland (Whoo, on location shooting!). I’m super pysched to be doing this, and I’m sure you’ll all enjoy the film when it’s done.

For those of you who visit the main page of the site, you already know there’s been a teaser trailer floating around for a few weeks. In case you haven’t seen it yet, check it out on YouTube:

Speaking of Leeds Point, we (meaning Mike, Kevin, and I) recorded a commentary for it yesterday. Had a blast doing it, as it was everyone’s first commentary. The DVD will be available on Amazon in about a month or so. So that’s exciting.

More news and pictures to come soon!
